Just finished my “farewell” article to working in Shenzhen. The essay describes the outcomes and sensitivities of the participatory research project Dalang Fever 3. How Data Can Empower a Migrant Society that I curated on behalf of the International New Town Institute and Het Nieuwe Instituut. It turned out to be a project with a steep learning curve. Working in China as a foreign NGO, cooperating closely with the local population and suggesting alternative organizational models has become a challenge over the last few years. We (at INTI) therefore believe it is time to conclude many years of fruitful research and exchange on the development of Shenzhen. I want to thank all Chinese and Dutch friends for contributing to our research, workshops, exhibitions and events. We will definitely stay in touch.
